How To Estimate Ready Mix Concrete Cost

A Ready Mix Concrete Cost Calculator should do more than multiply cubic metres by a single price. The concrete rate is important, but the final invoice can also include delivery, minimum-load or short-load charges, pump hire, waiting time, after-hours work, testing, environmental or regional charges and tax depending on the supplier and project.

That is why this calculator uses editable fields instead of publishing one fixed “national” ready mix concrete price. Enter the figures from your current supplier quote and use the geometry section only to calculate the quantity you actually need. The result is a transparent project estimate that can be updated whenever a quote changes.

Step 1: Calculate The Concrete Volume

Ready mix concrete is commonly ordered by volume. For a rectangular slab or pad, multiply length by width by depth after converting the depth to metres. For example, 100 mm becomes 0.10 m. A 6 m × 4 m × 100 mm slab has a base concrete volume of 2.40 m³.

Round Pad Ready Mix Calculation

A round pad uses the area of a circle. Divide the diameter by two to find the radius, calculate π × radius², then multiply by the concrete depth. Multiply again by the number of identical pads if more than one is being poured.

Strip Footing Ready Mix Calculation

A straight strip footing uses length × width × depth. Width and depth are often shown in millimetres, so convert them to metres before multiplying. Structural footing dimensions must come from the plans or other appropriate project requirements rather than from a cost calculator.

Step 2: Add A Practical Waste Or Contingency Allowance

The exact geometric volume assumes every form, trench and prepared base matches the measured dimensions perfectly. Real projects can include low spots, wider excavation, form movement, small placement losses and other differences. A project-specific allowance can reduce the risk of ordering exactly the theoretical volume and coming up short.

The calculator starts the allowance at 0 so you choose the number rather than inheriting a generic default. Recheck the finished forms or excavation before placing the final order.

What Is A Short-Load Fee?

Small ready mix orders can be less efficient for a supplier because a truck may travel with less than a preferred load. Some quotations therefore include a minimum-load or short-load charge. The exact rule and amount depend on the supplier, so enter the quoted figure rather than assuming a universal fee.
