How to Maintain Exposed Aggregate Concrete
Sweep and Rinse Regularly
Leaves, dirt and organic debris can settle in the textured surface. Regular sweeping and occasional rinsing reduce the amount of heavy cleaning required later.
Treat Oil Quickly
On driveways, absorb fresh oil before it penetrates deeply. Use a concrete-compatible degreaser or stain-removal method that is suitable for the sealer, if present.
Pressure Wash Cautiously
Exposed aggregate can be pressure washed, but avoid close-range concentrated jets that can erode the matrix around stones or damage a sealer. Start with lower cleaning intensity, a wider pattern or a surface cleaner and test first.
For a full cleaning workflow, see How to Pressure Wash Concrete.
Keep Joints Clear
Remove soil, weeds and debris without damaging sealants or joint materials. If a joint has failed, repair it with a compatible system rather than filling it with ordinary surface sealer.
Watch for Sealer Wear
High-traffic tyre paths and exposed areas can wear faster. Uneven gloss or colour enhancement may indicate sealer wear rather than a concrete defect.
