1. Check The Concrete Before Cleaning

For a small area, use dry cleanup first, work with minimal water and contain wash water where practical. Keep leaves, moss clumps and sediment out of gutters and drains. Rules and disposal options vary by location, so follow your local council or water authority requirements for wastewater.

Do Not Hose Chemicals Down The Street: a stormwater drain is not a disposal point for detergents, bleach, moss killers, sediment or dirty wash water.

4. Remove Thick Moss While It Is Mostly Dry

Use a plastic scraper, stiff nylon brush or suitable outdoor broom to lift thick mats of moss. Work carefully around joints and weak edges. Sweep the removed material into a container or bag instead of washing it into landscaping or drains.

Removing the bulk growth first makes every later stage easier. The brush can reach the concrete itself, less detergent is needed and the rinse water carries less organic material.

5. Pre-Wet Nearby Plants And Sensitive Areas
