For example, a room 12 ft 6 in long by 10 ft 3 in wide is 12.5 ft by 10.25 ft. Its area is 128.125 ft². Multiplying by 0.09290304 gives approximately 11.903 m².
Twelve inches equal one foot. Divide inches by 12 and add the result to the whole feet. Six inches is 0.5 ft, three inches is 0.25 ft and nine inches is 0.75 ft. The converter accepts feet and inches separately so you do not need to make this intermediate conversion yourself.

If a room, patio or paved section is measured in square feet but the product coverage is quoted in square metres, convert the exact area first. For example, 320 ft² converts to 29.7289728 m². If a tile carton covers a stated number of square metres, divide the converted area by that carton coverage and round up to complete cartons. Small rounding differences can become meaningful when areas are large or when the converted area feeds another calculation. Suppose a product requires a certain number of kilograms, litres or dollars per square metre.
